Thrift finds.

I love a good deal, but I really like good quality better. You can get that when thrifting, but you may have to dig a little! It’s worth it, though.

Dress: Goodwill, $5.99
Shoes: Goodwill, $2.99
Earrings: Gift, free (Unless you count my seconds… those were $12)
Nylons: Given to me still-in-the-box, free

Total outfit cost, (not including studs 😉 ) : $8.98

Pretty good, no?

Sadly, I haven’t found one of those treasure troves in my area where there is many vintage items. I may have to branch out a little though; Goodwill is my main dig!

Thrifting tip: Only buy what you love. You found 3 things that fit, you like them all, but you just LOVE that purple number? Only get the purple. Otherwise, you’ll come home with things you’ll only use once. (I did this recently with a dress I thought I would alter to fit right; that didn’t work out… So it’s going to become a skirt soon!)

Were you a bookworm as a child? I, in a balanced way, (I hope!) certainly was. The current pages I read were practically a part of me. When my mother would tell me to go play outside,  many a time I would grab the latest intrigue, climb a tree, and spend an hour in typed oblivion. [disclaimer :  I did truly play very often! 🙂 ]  Something about a life not my own, full of history and adventure I might never personally experience, was, and still is, captivating. I could know the life of a young queen in the 17th century, or make syrup with Laura Ingall’s grandmother, or realize that he definitely should not have asked the clerk why he worked late last Friday. I must say, I still feel this way! My life might be much busier,  but when I can, I still adore curling up in a corner with an old favorite – or a new unknown.

On a different note: I, like many others, have been part of a lovely world called Pinterest since this spring. It can definitely be a time waster, but mostly, I find many neat ideas I that never entered my mind! I thought a few of you might enjoy these hair-bow tutorials that have been rather popular lately.

Also, here’s a video tutorial!

On another completely different note: I make lip balm with beeswax from my dad’s beehives. I’m getting ready for a craft fair this Satuday, and am very excited with how my booth will look! I’ll probably post pictures this weekend.

Did you have a favorite book when you were a child? How about now? Was there a sacred place meant only for you and those curled pages? Or did you care less when it came to books or reading?

All Things Wedding ~ Part 3

“Here comes the bride! Oh, look at that marvelous dress, she is absolutely stunning! Just radiant! Aw, I knew she’d wear that old pair of All-Star’s from their first date. That’s cute, sentimentally speaking. Wow, that bouquet is really something; it looks like it weighs ten pounds! And the way it wisps down to the floor like that… she must really love gardenias!”

Okay, so that’s not what always runs through our heads when we attend a wedding, but we ladies do love to take in the details!  Today we are focusing on one of those particulars: the Bouquet.

Certain brides walk up the aisle holding a single stem. Others have an armful of flora that drapes nearly to the floor. Most are in-between. Don’t be afraid to choose what you really love; it is your day, after all! You really have the chance to show off your style with your flowers! There are just so many variations; it’s pretty easy to do something unique with it. I tried to gather a variety of pictures, none that were too similar. I could publish multiple posts dedicated just to these lovely creations; I absolutely adore them!

My sister’s bouquet. Taken by the lovely Rebekah from Bekah Hope Photography. Click on the pic to see more of her work!

What flowers did you have for your wedding? Or, what kind are you planning on for your future wedding day? I always wanted a simple red rose bouquet, but now I think I like the more unusual flower groupings!

All Things Wedding! Part 2

One of my favorite (and least favorite) things to do when getting dressed up is style my hair. That perfect french twist can do wonders for a girl’s self-esteem! Your hairstyle for the big day should reflect your personality. It’s all about being comfortable, feeling amazing, and staying true to your sense of style. Some brides want their hair up, others down, some in a half-updo, or braids, or…(You get the picture. Everyone has their own style!)It’s your big day, and if you just want a pretty french braid to show off your locks, go for it!

*I do not own any of these pictures. No copyright infringement intended. 🙂

So, what’s your favorite style? I am personally an up-do kind of girl, but my sister wore her beautiful hair down for her wedding. I’d love to hear how you wore yours for your wedding if you’ve already been married!

All things Wedding! Part 1

I love going to weddings. I love watching the groom as he sees his bride waltz to the altar. The bride seems enchanted, glowing from the inside. Everything covered in flowers, jewels, and lace. There’s just magic in a wedding!

Part one of my wedding series focuses on one of the main events: The dress!  It seems the trend lately has been lace and varying necklines, so that’s what most of these are. I have loved lace since I was a little girl, and I must say, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Kate Middleton’s dress!!! It’s the dress I had been imagining for myself since I was a child 😮 . I won’t have trouble finding a dress that’s my style whenever I do wed! I gathered these images online, no copyright infringement intended.

I adore this dress!!!! I would have a hard time choosing between this and a lacy one.

What styles do you like? If you’ve married, what kind did you have? (Yes, I’m talking about you with the awesome 1980’s Princess Di-inspired puffed-sleeves!)
